Name: Steven Fisher Date of Birth: May 5th, 1747 Place of Birth: Richmond, Virginia Place of Residence: Richmond, Virginia Party: Republican State & District: Virginia 1st Religion: Deist Steven was the son of a wealthy merchant named Nathanial Fisher. His father ran a series of general stores in the Virginia Capital of Richmond as well as owned several tobacco farms in the countryside. His wealth also included several slaves. Young Steven never wanted for anything and when the time came he was sent to the College of William and Marry in Virginia to study law. After graduating Steven was admitted to the Virginia bar in 1770. Steven served as a circuit lawyer for several years before being elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses. There he worked with other young revolutionaries including Thomas Jefferson to express their belief in representation by the people. During the War Steven continued to serve in the House of Burgesses and several times came close to being captured by British forces. Shortly after the war Steven's father passed away and Steven came into a great deal of wealth. Steven began to identify more with the Republican party and was eventually elected to the House of Representatives.
