Dear President Washington,
As a lowly Congressman from Delaware I send you my greetings and salutations. Recently I have sponsored legislation to create a federal department of the Interior. This Department shall be charged with negotiating relations between our nation and various Indian tribes as well as oversee the useful development of our rich nation resources. I am inquiring whether this may be something you would consider lending your support?
Sincerely,
Julian Clinton

Dear President Washington,
I am vaguely saddened that you have not answered my first letter, though I know a busy man such as you has little time to answer all of their correspondence. But today I write to you to discuss an important issue. You have named John Adams to the Highest Court in our land and I believe strongly that he will be approved. Therefore, there will be a vacancy for the Vice Presidency and I implore you to nominate Gordon Battle Hughes as the next Vice President of the United States. He is a good and honorable many who served faithfully as Deputy Speaker last Congress. Please consider his appointment.
Congresman Julian Clinton

Congressman Clinton,
My apologies for the delay in responding to your letter. After consulting with Mr. Adams, Mr. Hamilton and Mr. Jefferson, it has been determined that the Constitution and existing legislation provide no way to replace the Vice President before the electoral college meets again next year.
Yours,
George Washington
