We need to get rid of at-large elections in states with multiple seats. Despite demonstrating vastly greater activity and quality than our opponents, we made little ground in many of these states, because we failed to editorialize enough for individual candidates. Doing so is not possible, though, when there are multiple candidates. So I think we should make a hard push for creating single-member districts.
Landry/Magenta, can you write petitions for the MD and PA legislatures (those should be posted in the appropriate state forums), asking them to switch over? There shouldn't be a lot of opposition.
Legion, can you do the same for Connecticut?
I'm going to write New Jersey myself tomorrow.

Yeah. I had a couple things I wanted to do in Maryland, including that.

What would be the purpose and benefits of removing at-large districts besides making it easier to make political gains? I can't just say it's so the Federalists can have more seats when they have more activity.

Wouldn't districts help the parties with less activity? They'd be able to focus the little activity they do have in key races, making their activity more effective than it may otherwise be.

Yeah, but we can rebuff that with much greater activity, which will have a greater impact since we'll be able to game this better now that we know the rules. I mean, to quote the upcoming issue of the NYDT...
We should've rocked this election. What hurt us was the At Large nature of the races.

I can't just say it's so the Federalists can have more seats when they have more activity. The fact that no state legislature is elected at-large, and that before independence, there was no precedence for at-large districts. That's what I'm running with.

Point out as well that at-large districts force an individual Congressman to try to represent hundreds of thousands of people -- which is simply an unrealistic expectation. Also, it is a poor expectation -- we should be allowing the people a more personal voice in government.

Just bumping this, folks! I know things have died down a bit because of the holiday, but 1792 is approaching, so it's time to get back into it!
Landry/Magenta, can you petition Maryland immediately to change its electoral system? I'll handle Pennsylvania.
Legion, can you petition Connecticut immediately to change its electoral system?
