All characters can attempt to influence the state legislature by writing or even speaking with them in this thread.
Currently, Senator *Jonathan Elmer (I) is being challenged by supporters of +John Rutherfurd (F). It is expected that around 65 legislators support Rutherford at this point.

To the State Legislature of the State of New Jersey,
I hope this correspondence finds you gentlemen in good health and fortune. In regards to the Senatorial race to represent the State of New Jersey, the elections are very close, and the decision is clear that Mr. John Rutherfurd is the man to represent this great state. Senator Jonathon Elmer is no longer fit to serve another term in office as the representative of the State of New Jersey in the United States Senate, as New Jersey's prosperity and wealth that it is so capable of producing is declining with the rest of the nation everyday. The people of your state become poorer and poorer, with their wealth and livelihoods shrinking, under Senator Elmer. I am not saying that Senator Elmer is not a good man, for he helped usher in the constitution to New Jersey and served the Continental Army to the best of his ability, despite physical conditions that restrained him, but I am saying that it is clear that he can not serve New Jersey as effectively and beneficially, as Mr. Rutherford can.
Mr. Rutherford has the interests of every person in this state at heart. He is a man, that with his Federalist Party, supports the growth of industry, maritime trade, and the development of the national road. These broad new initiatives which have been restrained and held back from blooming by the other political factions in the United States Congress, could generate new wealth, and enable New Jersey and it's people to thrive, just as we envisioned the United States to thrive, when we fought for our independence against the British Crown. This will not benefit, just the industrialists, manufacturers, or the businessmen, who make up a considerable segment of New Jersey's population or the very richest in society, but his plans for the be development of a national road, will benefit farmers who rely on new, easier routes for commerce.
Those who say that Mr. Rutherfurd will work for just those dwelling in urban areas of this state, are expressing deceptions, for Mr. Rutherfurd was raised and comes from a farm himself. He is not an elitist. He is not a wealthy businessman. He is a regular man, who has experience in law and politics, wishing to represent a state of regular men, who simply wish to work hard for a living. Mr. Rutherfurd will help these ailing men who've been suffering under Senator Elmer, by not flocking to the Republican Party who claim to be the champions of farmers, but rather seeing the Federalist Party's plans for the union, as a sobering, viable, and moderate image in a radicalizing American political landscape, that is in the best interest of New Jersey. I reaffirm my stance that Rutherfurd is the man to represent New Jersey as a United States Senator, and that Senator Elmer should not serve another term in office.
Sincerely yours, Pierre Broussard
