President Washington,
It is with great sadness that I write to you to say that I and a number of my colleagues in the House of Representatives have, at this point, made the decision to break with the established ‘Federalist Party’ and break out on our own to pursue agendas that we feel are better accomplished without the men that have led the Congressional wing of the movement.
I remain, and my colleagues remain, personally committed to you as President and as an ideological leader setting the standards that all future leaders of this nation must meet. While partisan identifications might soon separate us, I assure you that I am as committed to you as I have ever been, and I will do what I can within the limits of my power to make sure that your policies and the policies set forth by your cabinet become the law of the land. Likewise, I commit to you that as long as you wish to occupy the office of President I will do all that I can to make sure that you remain President.
I am at your beck and call.
Your ever-faithful servant,
- Speaker Pro Tempore Gordon Battle Hughes
