Dear Mr. Jefferson,
It is with great honor and admiration that I pen you this short note. Your writings have inspired me, a simple immigrant farmer, and have instilled a new found sense of liberty and freedom. During the War for Independence I would read aloud you and Mr. Payne to my men. We would discuss and debate the merits and morals of founding this nation as well as "the cause". It was then that I realized what true freedom is; for a group of men to openly and honestly project their thoughts and thinking's without reprisal. It is with this love of Liberty and Freedom that I will advance the cause in the House of Representatives. I hope you find Monticello warming and welcoming since your return from France.
Your fellow Liberty Loving Virginian,
Elijah Surratt

Congressman Surrat,
It would be a privilege to have your company at a ball I am hosting at my family's plantation here in Georgia. Should you accept my invitation I will send a carriage to collect you and a guest along with any belongings you desire to bring for the trip to our plantation in Georgia. It would be a true honor to have you in attendance for this ball so that my fellow plantation owners can meet you and benefit from meeting those in my party of fellow Republicans. I look forward to seeing you soon
Sincerely,
William Brandt
