Place of Residence: Hartford, Connecticut
Henry William was born to a wealthy merchant family in Richmond, Virginia. He received a quality education but dropped out of studying law in exchange for working for a local printing press. While there he developed a love for writing as well as a grasp of the power and potential of the printed word. Shortly before the Revolution he married Natalia Fisher, the daughter of a wealthy plantation owner. Henry would work for the Continental Congress as a propagandist and circular writer. After the war he served as his brother-in-law Steven Fisher's personal secretary and local press agent. However, when Steven Fisher bought the Connecticut Courant he installed Henry as the Editor-in-Chief and Henry moved his family north to begin real press work.
