We all may disagree on where the national capital ought to be located. But I think we can all agree it ought to be located in the North. The two obvious locations, in my view, are Philadelphia and New York City. Philadelphia as it previously served as the nation's capital, and NY as it presently serves as the nation's capital (and is the nation's largest city).
What are peoples' thoughts here? Are there things Pennsylvanians want so much, they'd trade away the capital? Are there things New Yorkers would want so much, they'd trade away the capital? I know the Erie Canal is important to me, and getting it underway early would be huge, but I'm not sure if that be enough.

Guys -- why are we all supporting a DC Capital? A DC Capital is a Southern capital...

A DC capital is a compromise capital. That said, there is plenty of lovely land in NH that would be perfect.

DC is not a compromise capital. It's on the border of Maryland and Virginia -- two Southern states. IRL, the North got state debts assumed in return for a DC capital. What are we getting?

I would say Maryland's proper definition is as a middle state. It's not an ideal location, no.
We need to consider this more. I have dinner plans but I will propose something upon my return.

We used Kent Island, Maryland as the capital in a past round. We designated 10 square miles of it as DC, and had Maryland cede the rest to be unincorporated US territory. It's far more North than DC but still in a border state, and it's very defensible as an island (defensible especially from a Southern attack).

I think that is a rather sensible plan.

Do we have anything to leverage for a NE capital?

Only the fugitive slave law. The problem is that we also want to get our debts assumed by the federal government (they're a huge burden to MA, NY, and PA, especially), so...yeah.
I'd figured we could trade the Kent Island location (not a huge loss) for the assumption of debts. I'd be willing to see the capital in Philadelphia or Boston during the meantime, provided we authorize federal funding for the Erie Canal.
