Connecticut CourantFirst Edition-Fall 1789South Under Siege(Atlanta)-Georgia and Florida continue to suffer under an onslaught of native terror. Earlier this year the Seminole tribe began raiding Georgia towns and farms causing untold amount of damage. Earlier this week it was reported that the Seminoles had been joined by the Choctaw and Creek tribes with attacks ranging from northern Florida all the way to northwest Georgia. Up until now the Georgia Militia has been unable to stanch the savage attacks. The House of Representatives passed the Border Protection Act which authorized President Washington to federalize state militias to take action against the uncouth natives. The bill is widely expected to pass the Senate. However, there has been no word from President Washington on what he thinks on this topic. UNITED STATES LIKELY TO ADD ANOTHER
(Hartford)- Both the House of Representatives and the United States Senate unanimously passed the Vermont Statehood bill. This legislation, sponsored by Congressman Samuel Jay of New Hampshire, would add a 14th state to the union. This comes after the Vermont territory and New York state announced a solution to their border issues. This bill is likely to receive President Washington's signature any day. However, many in the South harbor unease as this addition will sway the balance of power away from slave states in Congress. While no Southerners opposed this admission, it is unlikely that it will be so in the future without some sort of compromise.

Connecticut CourantSecond Edition-Spring 1790Vermont Joins the Union, Swings Toward Republicans(Montpelier)-After a near unanimous vote through both the House and the Senate and adorning the signature of President Washington the Vermont Statehood Bill set the ground work for Vermont to be added as the 14th state late last year. Appointed representatives were sent to Washington until an election could be held. Surprisingly Vermont swung heavily towards the Republicans. In the 1st Congressional District Federalist David Lee eked out a close victory with 51% of the vote. However, in the 2nd District Republican Nathaniel Niles easily trounced his opponent netting 75% of the vote. The Vermont State Legislature also sent Republican Moses Robinson and Independent Stephen Bradley to serve in the Upper House. This hearty election victory by the Republicans clearly shows that they are a nationally viable party and suggests that the Federalists are on shaky ground.Former Congressman Jay Implicated in Plot to Kill Washington(New York)-Former New Hampshire Congressman Samuel Jay fled U.S. authorities and is currently hiding in Canada after being tagged in a plot to kill President Washington. Mr. Jay was joined by disgraced former American General Benedict Arnold and British MP Sir John Dunkirk in what was called the "Dagger Club". This dastardly organization was formed with the sole purpose of eliminating our esteemed President. Mr. Dunkirk is quoted as saying, "The so-called 'Dagger Club' is merely carrying out justice for Britain. Washington is a traitor to the empire and deserves death. Until such time as the American Colonies are back under British control, associations with ruffians are necessary." However the British Government was quick to condemn that actions of Mr. Dunkirk stating that the actions were morally reprehensible.Mr. Jay plead his innocence but still fled to Canada to escape justice. His fate is unknown as the Canadian government signaled an unwillingness to extradite Mr. Jay at least until a justice system is set up in the United States. This demonic action by a former member of the public trust suggests very strongly that there are plots afoot to kill our revolution in its grave even among those who sing its praises. We must be careful and vigilant.France Afire in Revolution(Paris)-The French Ambassador to the United State, Elénor-Francois-Elie Comte de Moustier, has formally asked the United States to intervene in the ongoing French Revolution. The situation began when King Louis XVI called the Estates-General to order for the first time since 1614 to address ongoing financial issues. Through a series of mistimed political choices by the King and his ministries and a strong desire for liberty the Third Estate, with elements of the First and Second, formed a National Constituent Assembly and vowed that they would not disband until a constitution was written. However, rioting and looting has taken place across the country. It is unlikely at this point that the U.S. government will intervene on either side, though it is certainly unlikely that our republic would fight to uphold a king. However, Congressman William Brandt of has sponsored a Congressional Resolution condemning the revolutionists and calling for the U.S. to stand by the King. Congress Faces Heavy Turnover
(New York)-Five current members of the United States House of Representative have resigned their seats over the last few days. Congressman James Jackson resigned his 1st Georgia seat to serve in the militia against the Seminoles. He was replaced by Isaiah Scott, a Republican. Congressman Josiah Parker of the Virginia 8th resigned to serve in the Virginia state legislature. He was replaced by Theodore Hamilton, a Federalist. William Loughton Smith from South Carolina 1st resigned to return to his law practice in his hometown of Charleston. He was replaced by Federalist Andrew Beaumont. Congressman Samuel Griffin left his seat to become mayor of Williamsburg. His seat was filled by Thomas Cole, a Federalist. Finally George Matthews left his Georgia 3rd seat to become a land speculator. He was replaced by William Brandt, a Republican.

REPUBLICANS SCOFF AND REJECT PLANS TO REPAY "NORTHERN DEBT" I am writing this because I believe, as do a great many voting men, that GEORGE WASHINGTON AND HIS ADMINISTRATION deserve support. It's no secret that the Republicans have reflexively opposed the plans of the administration. When a sound plan to properly repay the debts of all of the states, including Connecticut's, through the Federal government was introduced, the Republicans rejected the debt bill outright. One leading Republican said it was wrong for other states to repay "NORTHERN DEBTS." He spoke as though states in the center or south did not have debts of their own. He ignores that much debt was incurred by all states when fighting for our independence. He ignores that NORTHERN MEN FOUGHT AND DIED IN SOUTHERN STATES AND VICE-VERSA. Their adamant opposition to repaying debt would leave our states financially destitute for many years, harming trade and the commerce man. "Northern Debt", the very phrase speaks towards the sectional and factional poison that Republicans would introduce into our body politic. We did not a fight a war for northern independence or southern independence. We fought for independence for all colonies. We did not have a constitutional convention for a few states, we had a constitutional convention for all the states to be united as one nation. E PLURBIUS UNUM is a phrase that should resonate in the hearts of all Representatives in the capitol. That phrase is etched in the hearts of men such as ROGER SHERMAN, JAMES HILLHOUSE, JOHNATHON TRUMBELL, Jr., and STEPHEN MIX MITCHELL, all of whom deserve your vote. Roger Sherman is a patriot and a signer of the Declaration of Independence, as well as producing the CONNECTICUT COMPROMISE which made our constitution possible. James Hillhouse is a proud Yale man and a strong voice for Connecticut. Johnathon Trumbell, Jr. served as PAYMASTER GENERAL and an aide-de-camp to GENERAL WASHINGTON himself. Stephen Mix Mitchell is another Yale man and has served as a distinguished lawyer and as a delegate to the constitutional convention. All of these men will uphold the principles of our constitution and our federal system of government. They will reject the Republican voices of regionalism and factionalism. They will place the nation ahead of any faction or region. Thaddeus Steward, Representative from Maryland
