Thaddeus Steward sent letters to legislators in support of John Eager Howard:
My fellow Marylander,
Two years ago, I urged the good legislators of Maryland to retain the service of our Governor, John E. Howard, and despite the up-hill climb, that view ultimately prevailed and our good Governor was re-elected. I urge you to do the same yet again. Our state's finances are stable and our state economy is one that will benefit from the recently passed debt and bank bills. We need a man of sound ideas and support for the Merchant class and our maritime endeavors. John Howard has been that man in the past, and Lord-willing, shall remain that man until such time as he seeks to live a life of quiet retirement. If I were a legislator, I would be voting for John Howard as our Governor and I urge you to do the same.
