The Charter presently establishes the Federalist Party for a number of purposes, but it is my contention that many of these purposes should not exist. First, the Charter establishes the Federalist Party to conduct presidential and vice presidential primaries. Yet I find absurd the idea that regular voters -- not their representatives -- should determine the Federalist Party's nominees. Second, the Charter requires the holding of a national convention, and the establishment of a party charter. Yet our party is supposed to be the moderate party -- the party that eschews a platform, and that instead merely seeks to aid its disparate members in seeking re-election. Third, the Charter provides for the party to play a greater role in state elections than I believe appropriate.
Accounting for this, I move to amend the charter, such that Article I, Section 2 reads as follows:
