Submitted a proposal for a Bill of Rights yesterday, based off my conversations with Madison. I feel it is a good, strong list -- though I certainly understand those who worry it will undermine the enumerated powers. But I think at the end of the day, we need specific protections of specific rights -- we would not want tyranny to succeed in this nation.

House now debating my proposal for congressional rules. Very confident in it's passage. Sole objection unfounded. Quite excited.

House considering a new bill, providing for the Census. But it does not provide for how the census will be administered, or for who should administer it. It's these unspecific proposals that'll lead to a massive government; I stand opposed.

Introduced another bill yesterday, establishing the US code, along with the oaths of office. Surprised it was not brought up today. Establishing a simple, organized code of law is essential, and taking oaths is just as important.

The State of Vermont finally petitions for statehood. I hope to organize a compromise on the matter, such that my state's legitimate claims are respected, but such that democracy and self-decision are respected.

Investing today in the New York Daily Times, the new newspaper being founded by my son-in-law. I am confident it will be a successful venture.

Federalists rallying behind Hamilton's call for a Bank of the United States. I stand wholly and completely opposed. Such an institution will have horribly undesired effects, massively expanding federal authority.

Federalists now also calling for a "Department of Justice," a federal police force! They should just invite the crown back if they want such; it'd be far easier.

Massive debate breaking out in Congress over role of federal government. Seems more rhetorical than actual to me. We should spend more time legislating, less time prostrating.

Seminole raids reported on Georgian farms. No doubt the Federalists will now call upon an army to fight the Indians -- ironic, since our nation revolted because Britain imposed taxes to pay for an army to fight Indians. We'll see how the people react to calls for taxes to support another such army.
